brixton children's centre

Jointly funded by the London Borough of Lambeth and Sure Start, the remodelling, refurbishment and extension of this existing property has created the Brixton Children’s Centre with day-care nursery for 50 children (including infants), a drop-in crèche for up to 25 children and a community facility for adult advice and training programmes.

A new roof, comprising two simple inclined elements (with canopy to front) and generous clerestory glazing, provides good daylight and ventilation, working with internal reorganisation of spaces and facilities.  Architectural and landscape improvements have been designed to maximise the potential of the play area to the rear, which has transformed the life of the centre and those that use it.

London Borough of Lambeth/Sure Start 2004-06 completed - with Levitt Bernstein Associates
